Strengths: One of the nicest things about this class is its flexibility. I love that we can choose from pre-approved projects or even bring our own to the table which allows us to work on something we can be really passionate about, or something that closely relates to our future interests.
Weaknesses: Don’t get me wrong, the assignments are interesting, but it feels like there’s just so many of them! It feels like they’re popping up left and right, and sometimes they get in the way of really diving into our projects. As I was working on a solo project, the videos could take a little longer than I would like. Sure, I was probably editing and spending a little bit too much time working on them (which allowed me to finally start learning Adobe Premier), but it felt like sometimes I was rushing because I knew a lot of the day would be spend working on a video.
Opportunities: I think the discussions and blog posts could really level up if they were more tied to our projects. It would make everything feel more connected. It might just be me, but while they were interesting I do not feel like I was really engaging with other students. I am not sure if there is a good way to improve on these, every class that has them always feels the same – but that might just be part of online courses.
Threats: Here’s the real struggle, and I bet I’m not the only one feeling it. Underestimating the time needed for a project is a constant challenge, especially when you’re going solo. I had to learn the hard way after tackling a bug that took a week to crack. Maybe addressing this head-on could save a lot of students from feeling the time crunch or helping students get an idea of what might be possible during the course, I know that while I will have most if not all of the features implemented by the end of the course there still going to be a lot more to work on after the course ends.
