Through the stress assessments, I had to think further into stressors in my personal life. There were many things that I generally did not consider to be major stressors, but they appeared as questions on the assessment. On the Coping & Stress Management Skills Test, my report indicated that I use problem-focused coping strategies for my stress. In the description, it stated that this could be positive when managing situations that are controllable to find a solution, but ineffective when things are uncontrollable. On the Type A Personality Test, my results showed that I can handle some situations with impatience and hostility. What I found the most interesting about this test was that it explained that these behaviors can be linked to various health issues, such as coronary heart disease. Both of these tests allowed me to reflect on things that are stressing me out, as well as ways to handle it.
There are many ways in which companies are addressing the issue of stress management in the workplace. For example, yoga and meditation classes as well as utilizing stress management webinars were some solutions mentioned. Encouraging employees to take breaks and do things outside of work were other suggestions as well. Having a good work life balance can aid in reducing work related stress, and employees doing things that they enjoy in their free time helps to relieve some of that stress.
