Experiences with Discrimination

At first, if I heard claims of discrimination I would be very skeptical about it especially in this day in age. I feel like people’s version of a company being discriminatory is very objective and most of the time in certain situations there is more going on behind the scenes that most people don’t have any idea of. However, if this was a repeating problem then I would be hesitant to support or apply for this company. Values are something that if are not aligned then a long-term position can be quite difficult to hold since you will most likely be unhappy in that environment. Not to mention being a person of a minority group in the workforce already has its challenges and working for a company that has already been proven to be discriminatory just adds to that challenge. At that point, there is no point in putting yourself into a situation that is setting you up to fail. In terms of support, that company with my business is a harder concept for me to grasp. I wholeheartedly believe that usually, these issues come up when one person, usually of a higher status, has this belief but it is not one that is shared by the organization as a whole. I am also not one for politics to persuade my choices and decisions, I tend to make my purchases out of convivence first and scandals second. This opinion may be controversial, but I already have so much to worry about and take care of in my daily life that getting sucked into other people’s drama takes up too much of my energy.
