OSU Extension Service office.\u00a0 A portion of her position included time supporting the Master Gardener program.\u00a0 In her role as office specialist, Janet has been assisting and supporting Master Gardeners signing up for the Clackamas phone hotline and the MG program team.\u00a0 You may have met Janet at our Fall Recertification events in 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n<p>There is a bit of a transition time as Janet continues to assist in the front office, but starting April 1, Janet will be moving full time into her new position!\u00a0 We are thrilled to have Janet, her skills, and positive energy contributing to the metro-area OSU Master Gardener program.<\/p>\n<p>Janet will be supporting Master Gardeners with using our online systems.\u00a0 Need help getting logged into CERVIS?\u00a0 How about navigating the online modules in Canvas?\u00a0 Janet will be sharing her knowledge with encouraging guidance.<\/p>\n<p>A few fun facts about Janet\u2026she has confessed to LOVING dirt (hey, we are fans too!), has a keen interest in composting, and plays the banjo!\u00a0 Please join us in giving Janet a warm welcome!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/mgmetro\/files\/2018\/03\/2018-MG-trainees-IV-e1520109713258.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-843 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/mgmetro\/files\/2018\/03\/2018-MG-trainees-IV-e1520109687669-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/em><strong>2019 Master Gardener Training to Commence!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>February marks the beginning of our 2019 metro-area OSU Master Gardener training.\u00a0 For 7 weeks starting the first week in February and running through March, we will have science-based instruction from a stellar group of horticulture experts.\u00a0 Perennial favorite instructors are returning&#8230;Jen Aron, Margaret Bayne, Chip Bubl, Jane Collier, Claudia Groth, Monica Maggio, Weston Miller, and Jean R. Natter. In addition, we welcome 3 new instructors, metro-area Master Gardener Sally Campbell, and OSU Extension\u2019s Heather Stoven and Rachel Suits.<\/p>\n<p>Each AM or PM session attended counts as 3 hours of continuing education credit for 2019.<\/p>\n<p>We are thrilled that we will be welcoming over 180 new Master Gardeners!\u00a0 If you attend training class, please take the time to say hello to new trainees and welcome them to the Master Gardener program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The training sites and days are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesdays, February 5 \u2013 March 19, 9AM to 4PM<br \/>\nNEW LOCATION! You served diligently!\u00a0 Now display your sticker proudly!<\/p>\n<p>To maintain your certification, the following are the minimum criteria for Veteran MGs in 2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>20 hours of volunteer service<\/strong> in Program approved activities<\/li>\n<li><strong>10 hours of continuing education\/recertification hours<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit signed\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/extension.oregonstate.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/10501\/conditions-volunterer-service-october-2018-september-2019.pdf\">Conditions of Volunteer Service agreement<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Start logging your hours on a <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.oregonstate.edu\/mg\/metro\/resources\/volunteer-resources\/2019-volunteer-log-sheets\">2019 Volunteer Log Sheet.<\/a>\u00a0 Once that log sheet is brimming with your annual requirements, please submit your log to the Metro MG Program office, no later than September 30, 2019.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Supporting the OSU Master Gardener Program through Chapter Membership<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The metro-area OSU Master Gardener program has 3 vital, and active Chapters.\u00a0 Each Chapter is part of the Oregon Master Gardeners Association, which formed to support the OSU Master Gardener program.<\/p>\n<p>With the start of a New Year, our three metro-area Chapters have been accepting membership renewals. \u00a0Chapter membership <em>is optional and not required <\/em>to maintain active Master Gardener status.
