Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace

This week, I took 3 tests in relation to my levels of stress which were, Holmes Rahe Stress Inventory, Coping and Stress Management Skills Test, and the Type A Personality Survey. In the Stress Inventory test, I scored 164 which meant that a major health breakdown had over a 50% chance of happening in the next two years. For the Coping and Stress Management Skills Test, where I scored a 78. This means that I am much more capable of finding “Problem-focused strategies” that are able to be changed, as opposed to permanent. My last test taken was the Type A Personality Survey, where I scored 41 on the Impatience / Irritability scale. At times, I can let my anger or frustration get the better of me, even though I do try to remain calm in most situations. The times that I lash out in hostility can be leading causes to coronary heart disease, and I am at an increased risk of it.

One way that organizations are trying to combat the stress in working environments is by providing counseling services to their employees. While talking and discussing the stress level of employees is important for managers, showing them guided professional support in mental health, can encourage productive behavior. After looking into mental wellbeing in my job, I found that these counseling services are offered there. My company gives five free counseling services before there is a charge on your health insurance. This gives employees an opportunity to see how counseling can help and impact them, before they have to pay for the services. Giving employees an opportunity to examine their resources and see the benefits, is extremely important to a productive workplace.
