HR Management is the development of management systems to ensure that human talent is used effectively and efficiently to accomplish organizational goals. For example, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability. Along with this, they enforce policies, practices, and systems that influence employees’ behaviors, attitudes, and performance.
One of the companies that I chose to review in regards to how they practice HR is Cisco. Cisco’s purpose is to power an inclusive future for all. They believe in the power of technology and what it makes possible for our communities, businesses, and governments around the world. 96% of employees at Cisco say it is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. Along with this, 97% of the employees at Cisco agree that the management is honest and ethical in its business practices and that when you join the company you are made to feel welcome. This data shows that Cisco’s HR management works to make the workplace a welcoming and engaging environment for the employees.
The second company that I chose to examine is Progressive Insurance. Progressive is unified by its core values and they recognize forward-thinking approaches and embrace the ample opportunities to risk, learn and grow. 89% of employees at Progressive Insurance say it is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. Along with this, 92% of progressive employees agree that the management is honest and ethical in its business practices and would lay people off only as a last resort. This shows that their HR management has proven to the employees that they want the best for them and to help them succeed and reach their goals.
The third company that I chose is Baird. Baird is an employee-owned, international financial services firm with more than $380 billion in client assets. They provide Private Wealth Management, Asset Management, Investment Banking, Capital Markets, and Private Equity services to clients through more than 200 offices worldwide. 94% of employees at Baird say it is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. 97% of employees agree that when you join the company, you are made to feel welcome. Along with that, these words are drawn from employee comments on the Trust Index™ survey to show what employees say about what makes Baird a great workplace. These words are culture, people, team, and care. This shows that the employees feel that the HR management is creating a workplace culture that is there to take care of and support the employees.
After reviewing these companies, it is apparent to me that when it comes to being a manager I want to be someone who is honest with employees and trustworthy so that they feel that the workplace is a positive environment. Along with that, I want to be a manager that practices ethical decision-making when it comes to business decisions that affect my employees. In terms of what would be the most difficult and challenging part of a manager’s job, I believe that for me personally, it would be enforcing strict rules in regard to procedures and processes. I believe that there is oftentimes not a one size fits all approach when it comes to employees completing tasks because everybody has unique ways of doing things.
