It is always fascinating to learn about how the tools that we as scientists use every-day are discovered. PCR is one the main tools in our toolbox as microbiologists that without it would make the process of scientific research almost untenable. Learning about how this process was discovered and streamlined so that it could be used by a wider audience gives me hope that as scientific progress marches on more tools like PCR will be discovered easing the work in the industry and opening up new avenues of study.
