Writing Prompt- Week 5

Looking at others research proposals has definitely been helpful in inspiring my writing and how I write in a scientific fashion. One of the benefits of having access to so many different papers is it helps me to figure out how I want to structure my own writing. In writing it is a lot easier to find flaws and problems in other peoples work than your own. Because of this, we notice the flaws in others writing more readily, but we can use this to our advantage to find the flaws in our writing. For instance, I know that a problem that I saw in the proposals that I read was there would be many great ideas on the research that was suggested, but there would be so many ideas that the topic would lose focus. There would be this disconnect between the subject and the information given. After seeing this in others work, I also noticed it in my own writing. Being aware of the common issues I see while editing and giving feedback to others is the best way for myself in this class to improve my own writing.

I also have felt inspired in my writing from reading others work in this class. There are so many smart people with extremely interesting ideas, and it reminds me of how passionate people are for microbiology and research. It really makes me feel motivated to do my own research, and engage more in the class so I can learn the skills to do that research accurately and effectively.

I think in the future of this class, for my own writing, I need to focus on connecting ideas. Too often I have an interesting topic, but I bog it down with different ideas and studies that present other topics that deviate from the research I really want to do.
