Week 4 Writing Exercise

Kate SG in her study “Indigenous multi-resistant bacteria from flowers in hospital and nonhospital environments” for the American Journal of Infection Control indicates that flowers have populations of indigenous multi-resistant bacteria. SG shows through her sampling of 60 flowers placed in both hospital and non-hospital environments that bacterial communities are existent in flowers, and are not a product of the environment they are placed in; many were found to contain antibiotic resistance. The purpose of the study is to analyze whether the presence of resistant bacteria is due to the environment, and aims to help identify possible sources for bacterial contamination in settings where a sterile environment is needed. SG creates a connection to both researchers in microbiology, as well as medical staff interested in infection control.
