The week of 10/10/2022

Greetings once again to those reading!

Thank you once again for following up from our first week’s post! It has been quite a journey since our official kickoff and a lot of things have happened since I last wrote an entry. So to start things off, unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the specific project that I wanted for my capstone. But on the bright side, I was able to land a project involved in mobile development. My project involves developing an app that uses crowd-sourced data to determine the best local prices for customers looking to buy something. It was my second choice in terms of my list and I am quite interested but still a bit intimidated/unsure of some features/aspects of the project.

We are already in the latter half of our sprint and I definitely have experienced the highs and lows of development. Our first meeting as a team was quite stressful in terms of figuring out how to tackle this project. There was definitely a lot of things to consider and different voices on implementation. I think part of what made it difficult was that our team actually consisted of 5 members instead of the standard 3 members. I will say that I am getting the “too many cooks in the kitchen” feeling. So far, we’ve collectively made a document consisting of our team standards and our project plan. I feel satisfied with what we have outlined and some of my team members have made some great contributions such as our Figma UI outline which has been helpful in visualizing parts of our app.

We’ve gone ahead and started playing around with React Native, Expo, Firebase and some other APIs which has been a good learning experience. I’ve learned a lot from looking at my team’s code and trying to play around with different APIs. So far it has been super satisfying putting things together and experimenting with how the app should look. Our next sprint focuses more on the back end of our app so we shall see how that goes.
