College of Pharmacy researchers recently published a review of post-translational modifications of transcription factors in Trends in Pharmacological Sciences. Additionally, they submitted a cover design and were selected!
The cover design illustrates a transcription factor, represented as a music conductor, bound to DNA. The sheet music—or post-translational modifications—contains directions the conductor (transcription factor) sends out. The design idea came from Dr. Walter Vogel. When the idea was sent to TiPS the designers had no idea the editor is a violist. When she saw the design she couldn’t say no to putting it on the cover of the February issue.
