For this blog post, I want to write about some of the most valuable resources for me in my job hunt which was helpful in receiving a job offer for when I graduate in June.

Over the last summer, I was able to take a technical interview preparation course through the non-profit CodePath. throughout the 12 weeks of this course, we covered primarily algorithm-based coding problems. This involved going over common patterns that different coding problems generally fall into. I also learned a handy acronym titled UMPIRE. UMPIRE follows the form Understand, Match, Plan, Implement, Review, and Evaluate. Using this acronym gave me a clear path and strategy for solving problems even when I was stuck after reading a problem statement. The sheer volume of problems worked through the class made my coding assessments received a breeze in interviews.

Another resource that was really useful for me was this GitHub repository listing jobs specifically for new graduates in Computer Science. When I was first applying to jobs, I had issues with finding job listings that I qualified for without any professional experience aside from a couple of internships. Most job listings were described as entry-level but expected 2 years of experience. This repository was helpful since it was a community-sourced list that is constantly updated with new job opportunities that expect no experience. I applied to hundreds of jobs and the majority of my responses came from job listings on this repository.
