Labor Unions

Within both the lecture and are both common and provide support for individuals working Internet search it was found that labor unions within companies. Working within a union provides individuals the opportunity to collectively support their feelings and rights within the workplace. For this reason, several industries have formed unions with workers to help balance the workplace between employees and employers or management. Within both the lectures this week and outside material found it was clear that unions bring people together but also limit individuality for individuals. For example, within the article, The Pros and Cons of Labor Unions by Human Resource Management Network, it was clear to see how unions elect members that then push their political agenda or ideas upon all employees. For this reason, this may create some conflict within the members of the union. However, it is still clear to see how individuals feel supported and that they will not be taken advantage of while still being within a union. From my personal experience, I have never been a part of a union while working period however, my older sister is a nurse. And is part of a nursing union within Oregon. She values being a part of a union. Because they can negotiate wages promotions and staffing slash capacity issues. Being a part of the union allows her to vote and have her voice heard on rights that affect her daily work. Overall, labor unions are seen to have both pros and cons. They help bring people together and create forward movement for employee rights. However, they can often become politicalized and harm movements or scare off other employees.
