Job Descriptions

One of the most important aspects of potential opportunities for jobs in an industry is the exact roles and responsibilities in which that role will endure. These job descriptions are what the potential employee will look at before applying to a position so it is very important for a company to have clear communication with the candidate before they start applying for a job. This is essential because certain employees might not be willing to do a certain task of a job, for example this job could include heavy lifting as a responsibility and it should be up to the employer to list this activity so the employee know what they are getting into. It is also important on the legal side of things, as employees could sue their company for forcing them to do activities that are not included in the job description. Going back to the lifting example, some employees might not be physically able to lift weight in their jobs and will not be willing to do this task. This will also create a hostile work environment as people will start to point fingers at each other and not know who’s job it Is to do a certain task. This is why it is so important to be clear in the descriptions because it will eliminate the finger pointing and make the job flow much more efficiently. A way that companies can address this issue is by doing a job hazard analysis of each one of their jobs and distinguish what activities are considered hazardous and need mentioning in the job description. This is an effective way to mitigate miscommunication on jobs because it gives the employer better knowledge as to exactly what goes on in each job so they can translate that to the descriptions.
