The three companies that I selected from the list were Hilton, American Express, and The Cheesecake Factory Inc. I wanted to select three companies that have very different culture from my perspective, and also occupy different space in different industries. While I did not go too far in depth to researching these companies’ HR practices, I found some common trends. One thing that all three companies shared was that employees felt that their teams were welcoming, friendly, and fostered individual growth. This reflects the learning material in that the employee’s manager is the most important aspect of their satisfaction with the company. I also found that these employees felt like they were making a positive impact on their customers and their overall community. A sense of fulfillment with a job is something that can help companies to retain employees. In my experience I think that I have demonstrated a lot of qualities that I hope to maintain as a manager in the workforce. I emphasize getting to know the people that I lead on an individual level, and customize my feedback and requests based on their individual personalities. I think that one aspect of being a manager that I find to be difficult is not overstepping and leaving more to my employees instead of inserting myself into every decision. I need to work on being more trustworthy and empowering of those that follow me. I think that a great manager is someone that knows their employees and is able to help them reach their full potential in unique ways.
