Week 7 – Blog Post: IPIP Results & Reactions

The results of this test showed that I was high in all dimensions of personality besides neuroticism. The two areas where I scored the highest were conscientiousness and openness to experience. These results show that I am a well-rounded individual who is organized, extraverted, and likes to think and discuss complex topics. I believe that these results are accurate as they describe me well. I scored extremely high in all of the conscientiousness categories, and I think that this is my most prominent personality dimension. I am extremely organized and routine oriented which shows in my scores. I was surprised by my high extraversion scores, as I feel that I fall more in the middle in that category, but I suppose that this makes sense based on my answers.

I believe that an employer would look at the results of this test and label me as a well-rounded employee. The job context is important, but I think that my traits could fit well in most areas. Since I have a high extraversion score, I think that employers would see me as a strong leader. They will attribute public speaking and collaboration as a few of my strengths based on this score. My agreeableness score is a bit more moderate, but still high. My 99 sympathy score is the most important aspect to note, and this paired with my high extraversion makes me a candidate for a leader who will put others needs before his own. I believe this to be an attractive aspect to an employer, but my lower scores in modesty and cooperation could imply some weakness in this area. I have already discussed my high conscientiousness scores, and what they imply, as I feel that employers in all industries are looking for conscientious workers. Some may argue that these scores imply that I am too routine oriented and not someone who would think outside of the box very well, but my openness scores disprove that idea. While these scores paint a picture of a quality employee in many areas, employers may recognize a few weaker areas. For example, my high openness score, specifically my high liberalism score shows that I am not one who abides by the way things have always been and I like to change the status quo when needed. While this can be an advantage for some positions, it could certainly scare off potential employers looking for an employee who would do their job effectively and not shake up too much.
