Introduction to the Author

I think a good way to start a blog is with an introduction to the author so that the reader can form some kind of connection and get the gist of what their content will be about. That way you know right off the bat if the author is here to talk about their great great great grandmother’s secret recipes even though you’re only interested in the opinions of others regarding what they think is the best episode of The Office (it’s Dinner Party) and why (it’s the plasma TV, babe) you’ll know it’s probably not for you. Unfortunately this is not a Grandma’s recipe blog or The Office best episodes blog, so with that in mind and without further adieu I will start the intro to the author for Keenon’s 467 Blog.

Let’s start at the very beginning, of my computer science journey that is, which began about 3 years ago. I had recently graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in biology with ambitions to get into the medical field. I started doing some shadowing and quickly figured out that that amount of social interaction was extremely exhausting for me and would not be sustainable as a career. I then found myself working in a position unrelated to biology and did not see myself going far in that field with my education and background. I was trying to figure out what direction I wanted to take my career in and was looking for a field with a lot of opportunity, a promising future, and well paying. That’s when I decided on computer science and software engineering as the career path I wanted to pursue. I had always been interested in computers since I was young and a lot of my hobbies involved interacting with computers and programmable electronics so I thought it would also help facilitate enjoying my hobbies to a greater depth while also being a fulfilling career.

Fast forward 3 years and I can give an update as to where I am currently on my journey. Right now I am doing an internship at Intel which I began in April 2021 and will be completing in December 2021. This is a software engineer internship and without going into too much detail the focus is on performance benchmarking intel computing hardware vs various hardware from market competitors. I’ve enjoyed my time during my internship and am excited for the opportunities that it will open up for me once it is completed and I will hopefully complete my journey to becoming a software engineer.

Present day the main thing that I am focused on is completing my final quarter at OSU and my final class CS467 Capstone project. I have formed a group and have been in contact with them a fair amount over the first week and we’ve selected a project that we would like to work on together. My teammates are very motivated and proactive so I’m looking forward to working with them to finish out my time at OSU.

I’ll close out this introduction here before it turns into my life story and save some material for my future posts.
