My cousin told me he asked our boss for a raise and I asked him why because I was curious and didn’t think much of it. He told me that he’s been given more responsibility, has been taking action when necessary, and dedicates his time and effort to doing a great job at work. He also told me that another co-worker was getting the same paycheck amount that he was but does none of what my cousin has done while working there. The other co-worker has been coming in late for shifts or not at all with no notice and he doesn’t do much in the kitchen besides eat and bug everyone else.
Compensation motivated my cousin’s behavior to ask for the raise because he had been putting in a lot of effort and time to make sure he goes above and beyond at his job while another isn’t and still getting paid the same. It made my cousin question why he is putting in as much effort if others aren’t, especially if you get paid for what you do. The increase in the compensation lead my cousin to behave that way because what you do or what you work for should be or is sometimes shown in how much you get paid. He didn’t want to be getting paid the same as another co-worker if he is putting in more work.
