Residents would donate throughout the year and if I was ever tipped it would go into the pool of funds. I never knew how much the residents would give back to us, but I could calculate the percentage of how much I would take home from the total based on using everyone else’s schedule so I could have a better educated guess of the possible bonus I would receive and then plan accordingly with Christmas gifts and trips for myself. I would also work holidays that you would still get time and a half but not major holidays for my family. It was not just the amount of money I would receive, but how fun it was to work with my fun coworkers and to be appreciated by the residents and the employees that were higher up for my work. I definitely increased my effort when I learned about this opportunity. I also ended up leaving this job because of the lack of compensation in the future regarding pay. The supervisors did not see a lot of their employees’ value to the team and so a lot of us chose to leave staggeringly. Some had jobs lined up and some of us were going back to school and would only be able to work once a month, so it was not worth it. Compensation seems like a big deal and is something that I would talk with my future employers about for opportunities to be compensated for different work-related things as it is a great form of recognition. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I can’t really think of any personal decisions I have made based on compensation that are directly linked, but at my old job as a server at a retirement home the employees were given a holiday bonus based on the hours, we worked so more of a piecework type of incentive.
