Blog Post: Experiences with Discrimination

Upon hearing that my favorite company has been faced with this public lawsuit, my heart goes out to those affected by their behavior. This information would really change the way that I felt about the company. In learning that a company had been discriminating against individuals for any reason, I would no longer want to support that company in any way. For me, this would include stopping shopping with them, visiting their stores, or following their social media accounts. I would also consider telling friends and family about the situation so that they were aware as well. Additionally, I would not consider applying to work with that company unless the culture had been dramatically changed. It is important to me that any company I work for does not discriminate against any individual or group. Personally, I believe this even to the extent of where I shop or recommend people visit. My current role as human resources creates a lot of areas in which I can help shape our company culture. It is important to me that this culture is one that is open and inviting to all people. This is why I feel so strongly about not supporting businesses that allow discrimination. I think the only situation where I would consider to continue to shop, support, or apply with a business after learning of this lawsuit, would be in the event of a complete turnaround. If that business was able to eradicate the discrimination entirely and make amends, I may reconsider.
