I am a student studying Computer Science at Oregon State University. I am starting this blog to document my experience of working on a team at Oregon State. This term, I will be building a project with a group of other students. What kind of project will we build? Well, I am wondering what the answer to that question is myself.

This term started off a bit tumultuous. When I logged in, I noticed there were projects we could sign up for as a team and we could also propose projects for consideration for this course. However, I had one day to do this. I didn’t know there was pre-work that was intended to be finished before the course started. So, I feel behind and I am hoping that I do not get placed on a project that is too demanding given my other commitments outside of school. Also, I do not want a project that is boring. At this point, I know that I will not get to propose my own idea and have it accepted. So I let my fate lie in the hands of the people who make the groups.

Despite my anxiousness to know what project I will be working on, I must say, that above all, I do not want to work on a boring project. The reason I started this journey as a computer science student is because I found software development exciting. Really, I’d rather be a bit stressed about my project than bored. Boredom brings its own kind of stress that is less entertaining and engaging. I’d rather be pushed to learn and grow than be bored and static.

I have worked in teams as a data analyst in a professional setting, but this will be my first large scale project with a software engineering type of team. I am excited to see how this will develop throughout the term. I am anxious to see what role I will have on the team and what my responsibilities are. I don’t want to let the team down, but most of all, I don’t want to let myself down. I have high standards and expectations for myself, even when I try to temper them.

So, I sit here, hoping desperately, that I get placed on the stock investment projects so that I can have something wild and entertaining this semester. I certainly do believe that working on a team will make the experience enjoyable if it is indeed challenging.

Checking out for now and waiting for that next development to share with you as my journey begins. Thanks for tuning in. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Hi, my name is Jason Allen. I am a student studying Computer Science at Oregon State University.
