The Metaverse, a virtual universe announced to be in production by Facebook, is supposed to be a revolutionary new platform (according to Facebook). The Metaverse is meant to be an interoperable AR and VR technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The idea of the Metaverse reminds me of science fiction movies like “Ready Player One” and books like “An Absolutely Remarkable Thing”. In both these instances the technology was used as an escape from reality that individuals spend their entire waking lives in. While I don’t think the technology will be a solid replacement for reality anytime soon, technologies like Neuralink could theoretically tap us into the Metaverse matrix-style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don’t think of myself as a Luddite, but I think there is something to the worries people have towards this form of technology. I’m sure the benefits will arguably outweigh the harm. I for one enjoy taking hikes in the real world. The real world is beautiful and dynamic and interesting. But even I am excited and interested in exploring a new, alternative universe that is created by humans. Into the future we go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
