I worry at times how marketable I will be for a career in software development at the end of this quarter. I love developing software and hope to make it a professions as soon as possible after graduating. I think the concern partly comes from understanding there is always so much more to learn. When do you know you’ve learned enough to work in software development as a profession?
I have learned a lot during my time studying at Oregon State University, and I’m definitely glad I made the decision to study here. I feel I have developed a broad understanding of software development. I think something that would make me more marketable, however, is having a specialization.
I have decided to develop my abilities as a Frontend Web developer because I enjoy doing it and know there are jobs for people good at it. I hear stories of people applying to as many jobs as possible without securing a job or even more than a handful of interviews, and I hope specialization helps me.
I’m currently trying to focus my attention on learning as much as possible, and hope in a couple months I will know enough to have some chance at securing full-time employment. Wish me luck.
