Hello Everyone and thank you for reading my first blog!
My name is John-Francis Caccamo and I from Sacramento, California. I am entering my final quarter of Oregon State University and I am excited to finish my time and studies with a flourish. Outside of school and programming, I mostly enjoy travel, good food, swimming, biking and hiking – I hope to go on a Latin America / Euro tour after I graduate and before I enter my first SWE job in fintech starting next summer. I hope to sample a myriad of cuisines and dishes in my extensive travels!
Prior to my studies at Oregon State, I received a Bachelors in Genetics and Genomics and have done lab work. I realized that a perfect career scenario for me would be fuse my biological background with software / programming. Therefore, I enrolled in OSU’s post-bacc program to achieve this. A dream job would be to be a genetic population analyst / statistician or participate genome mapping or similar. While a Biological PhD or Masters was never in the cards for me, I feel that a comp sci degree could be a unlikely but perfect complement to my existing background.
For the CS 467 Capstone Project, my team has decided to work on an AI/ML Bitcoin trading bot. This bot will be trained with historical data since 2012. I am excited to really do a deep-dive into Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The idea of really fleshing out such hot CS topics and applying it in such a practical manner will really encourage me to learn, create and ultimately finish my OSU post-bacc with aplomb.
