As the head of a funding agency, the project that I would look most forward to funding is a project that researches the ideal gut microbiome, and what can be done for people to achieve that. I think that doing this will further increase the knowledge we have of the gut microbial community. I think it would be quite the scientific breakthrough to find a standard of the healthy amount of different types of microbes for the average person, then expanding and even researching the best microbial community for different sexes and body type, as well as even what the people like to eat. We most likely would discover what amount of lactobacili and bifidobacterium is healthy for a person in comparison to other microbes present, as well as techniques for manipulating and managing the amount of all microbes present to best digest foods that come in as well as to keep the gut healthy. That would further help people to decide what probiotics and synbiotic treatments to use as well as specific diets and exercises they can use and do for their gut microbial community.
