Maintaining Job Descriptions

When viewing a great company a common factor is having management along with Human Resources maintaining job descriptions. In my personal experience working in the medical field things around you are constantly evolving. With that comes job descriptions, and tasks for employees. In order to have a consistent job description maintaining and developing is consistently needed. To address this companies can involve multiple team members that will review and actively seek feedback for skills and knowledge that is needed. This is especially important when seeking an employee that possesses these skills and knowledge for the job position.

As mentioned in “Job Worth Doing: Update Descriptions” job description can be described as the, “…mother of all HR processes.” For many companies this can include recruitment, training programs, performance evaluations, and compensations. However, in order for a job description to have value it needs to be up to date regularly and appropriately. I myself have been in my current position for three years. When applying I was given a description of my tasks and duties however these tasks have changed.

Due to the increase of responsibility, I am more engaged therefore requiring flexible work arrangements. Although my increase of responsibility was not directly mentioned this was taken on naturally due to the demand of my position. Every day is different for me although I have a routine my tasks, and new projects are always changing. Furthermore, since I am the only one in my current position one document of job description is kept. This is reviewed on a regular basis due to the demand of the position. Overall, creating and collaborating a system to maintain job descriptions is essential in order for the company, and employee to advance.
