Typical vs. Maximal Performance

If I am a business owner, and considering Avery and Jaime, I will consider some facts. If I am looking for a normal employee, who is responsible to fill the forms and do some basic business jobs, I would definitely choose Jamie. I think he is more reliable and I can always be confident about the job did by him. However, if I am hiring a manager, I would prefer Avery. I need his creativity and his potential to lead the team getting better. But for most situations, I prefer people like Jaime who are trustworthy.

For the job that I think Avery can do better than Jamie, I think jobs that need high creativity need him, like a designer. A designer doesn’t have the same job to do everyday. He neither needs to keep producing inspirations everyday, nor needs to keep his inspirations above average. He just needs some outstanding inspiration and makes it become true, and that is enough to contribute himself for a period. Avery has a high performance ceiling, that means he has high potential to design an amazing product to get achievement for himself.

However, jobs for Jamie are totally different with jobs for Avery. Jamie is very consistent and he can perform his job well everyday. I think being an accountant is a good job for Jamie. Accountants need characteristics like stable, reliable, consistent and accurate. Managers don’t want their accountant to be creative, putting something new to their bill every day. But managers want their account book to be accurate and reliable. Jamie is a perfect person for that job, because he can provide good results every day.
