MGMT448 Most Important Thing You’ve Learned

This course is an interesting course overall. The most important thing I learned from this course is the experience from others. As an international student, I am only allowed to work a part time job on campus. Unlike other students, I have relatively less working experience during my college life. However, when taking this class, I read so many blog posts and my classmates are sharing their real life experience about their jobs. That brings me a lot of information about the off campus jobs.

There are many main parts of this course that make me impressed. The most impressive part is the blog post from my classmates that shared their working experiences. From application to the job itself. I learned a lot from others’ experience and built my first impression about my future career. Another interesting part is the discrimination part. I am an Asian, so I feel this topic resonated with me a lot, especially when applying for jobs after graduation. Also, the self reflection discussion let me know others’ dreams and targets, that helped me identify myself better. I thought my dream was not far enough and too realistic, because I don’t want to be rich but have a normal life. But I found it is not a weird dream compared with others. That brings me more power to achieve my dream, although it is not very challenging.

There are a few smaller topics and discussion made me learn a lot too. Job Descriptions, Job Ads, Job Interview discussions let me know how to fetch the information correctly when finding or applying for a job. Knowing some cognitive ability tests are useful in the future too. And I even shared what I learned from selection methods with my father, because he always has a hard time managing his employees well.

Overall, I feel this course is one of the most useful courses. Most of the concepts from this course and experiences from my classmates are useful for my future career, from application to the end. At this time, I am heading to my OPT period soon and that knowledge built a solid foundation for that. And I believe I will be better with that knowledge in my future career.
