As an international student, job opportunities are very limited for me in America. Based on my student VISA, I am only allowed to work on campus. So I decided to apply for a part-time job in one of the dining centers on campus. The application process was quite simple, there was a website for students to apply on-campus jobs. There were few questions to answer and some basic personal information. I finished all of the applications during the winter break and the rest of my work is to wait.
After a few months, I got a follow up email with my interview time. I was very nervous at that time because that is the first interview that I have ever had in my life and my English was very limited at that time. I have asked many of my friends who work in that dining center, like the interview process, questions in the interview, etc. They told me almost everything but I was still nervous about that.
On the interview date, I arrived 30 minutes earlier to the meeting place. There was a student who interviewed me and I answered all of the questions that she asked me. It seems that they are not picky on interviews and I successfully passed the interview. The interview process is different from my imagination, because she didn’t ask me any tricky questions like “What is your dream” and we finished the interview in the dining room instead of a quiet conference room. The main part of the interview was signing forms and filling the paper. After the process, she told me what I needed to do next and showed me every concept in the dining center.
I was very excited after the interview because it is the first real job that I got in my whole life. And I was very glad to work for them because I have zero working experience, so there is no reason to be picky. The interview was very relaxing and the interviewer was very friendly. That let me feel very positive about the dining center. Because she was representing the dining center at that time. She was friendly and that let me assume all of the people there were friendly. I am still working in that dining center now because it is really a good place to work and people are the same as my imagination.
