There is always uncertainty in the future, there is no getting around it. Even when you plan, plans can change in an instant because of shifting circumstances. I’m still in the job hunt and don’t know which city or job I’ll choose. It makes it even more difficult that my girlfriend and I have dreams for the future. This future includes home ownership and a family. I can’t just pick up and move anywhere without a solid plan of action. Home ownership has a high commitment and entry cost that isn’t possible in many cities. All these considerations have narrowed my job hunt and added a layer of complexity that I didn’t have after graduating with my first degree (I had no commitments then).
My priorities have definitely shifted towards software positions that offer a sense of stability. This means looking at larger corporations such as IBM, GM, etc. that offer good benefits and a stable income. My full-time job hunt was rough in the beginning (started in November and December). However, my luck has took a turn for the better this month. I’ve had three interviews in the past month with two more upcoming. These interviews have gone relatively well and I’m hoping that one of these opportunities translates into an offer.
I finally have hope that my plans can be set for the near future. But beyond the short-term, I won’t hold my breath. Plans can change in an instant.
