Who Am I
As the title implies, my name is Jaymes Hamilton. As of the time of writing, I am a senior in OSU (Fall 2021) and I am 21 years old. Before college, I was enrolled in Oregon Connections Academy for every possible year of education. I was in the first class of people for ORCA, so I, along with other similar people, the first person to be enrolled, complete, and graduate every year since ORCA was founded.
I went to Chemeketa after graduating, then got a computer science degree of transfer and moved to OSU, though I have been a degree partner since the beginning. I take all of my classes online, because I live a troubling distance from OSU. Currently, I am taking CS classes for a Computer Science Major. When coding, I prefer Python because of its ease of use. It also feels like everyone is better at me at coding, but that is probably because my preferred way of coding is trial and error. I like seeing results, and it can be frustrating (read: very) if there is no results.
Why Computer Science?
I like reading and playing video games. I learned to read quickly, and when I was able to read, I started playing video games. They have had a huge influence on me; video games have made me want to take the path I am today. I wouldn’t say I like coding a lot, but it is great when it works. In my experiments, I tend to like coding more when it works. I like making things, especially things relating to video games, so my chosen path in life was laid out before me pretty obviously. Making video games is no easy feat, as I’ve seen and researched. If anyone wants to make video games, my advice is to make sure you understand data structure and programming language fundamentals, as they are very important. Additionally, depending on who you work for, the languages they use may be different or unfamiliar. Try to learn about it if you can. Making your own game is a good way to get hired, so don’t just wait for something to happen. It shows that you are capable.
The Future
The future, as of writing this, is a bit hazy for now. I know what I want to do, which is become a video game designer, but that path may change depending on what is available. A video game designer is a difficult job that requires a lot of experience, so I will have to work my way there. I’m not sure if I should work on mobile games either, because they tend to be a lot different in execution to computer or console games. It would probably be a good idea to have experience in it, because mobile games are quite popular, especially for the less hardcore gaming community. Currently, I am in the works on making a mobile game with my brother, Arjay Hamilton. I think it will give us both a lot of valuable experience.
