Version 0.01

Introduction

I am pleased to report that version 0.01 is complete. It is the most alpha of alphas, game-wise. As in, there isn’t even a game. It is just the title screen, but implemented in SpriteKit. What took the longest was trying to understand Swift and SpriteKit. It is important to have a good grasp of the language, so we didn’t make too much progress, nor did we want to while we were still new.

Version 0.01

This is the image. If you recall from previous posts, there are a few differences. I’m thinking of lightening the background color more, because it looks too blue. As you can see, using SpriteKit, we created a scene reminiscent of the title screen mockup. The only thing that is missing is the options gear in the bottom right, along with the actual counters for steps and gold. I think I might know how to do that, but we weren’t ready, nor did we have enough time to try.

Conclusion

In conclusion, work has started on the game. The reason why we started with this screen is because it is the title screen of the game. People will probably be seeing this screen a lot, especially if they are walking and not playing the actual game. This screen seemed the most appropriate to start with. There is still a lot more work to do, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Making a game is a long process that takes lots of work. If it was easy, more people would do it. I would have liked to show more, but that will be for later when we understand the language better. I hope to document more progress throughout the fall term and beyond.

Thanks for reading.
