This whole post-bac experience is wrapping up and I am very excited to take my degree and run. It&#8217;s been a great experience, but I&#8217;m ready for a break. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The path to this program started as a way to stoke my curiosity and keep my brain active. I never would have thought in those early days learning to code that I would make a transition into computer science and software engineering. Now five years later, I get to enter the workforce with my new degree just as the tech market is taking a dive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is the tech bubble popping? I don&#8217;t know. What&#8217;s a bubble? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/t\/tech_bubble.asp\">Investopedia <\/a>calls it an unsustainable market rise due to increased speculation in tech stocks. The way I understand it is that tech companies become way overvalued and stock prices rise to unrealistic numbers. And when investors realize this, they sell and values crash (this is the popping part). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do the high stock prices result in tons of cash for the companies? I dunno. I honestly don&#8217;t understand this very well, but it does seem as though these tech companies have been living large for a while now and it&#8217;s time to course-correct. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So does this mean I&#8217;m not going to get rich working at a FAANG company? Yea, probably, but not because of the bubble. Mostly because of my lack of interview preparation and dedication to algorithm study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will the big tech companies even still offer those crazy high salaries? And why are those salaries so high anyway? Are they bubble salaries? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should I feel sorry for an engineer who just lost their $500K job and walked away with 3-months&#8217; severance? I probably should, and I do, a little. But, would I trade places with them? Maybe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honestly, the potential popping bubble does make me a little nervous, but I&#8217;m sure all will be fine. I just hope I can position myself to be ready for the next wave. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the final blog of the final term.
