Our group decided to chose the technologies that were listed in our project plan due to a combination of project requirements of technologies as well as the convenience of some of the technologies that were chosen. For example, Python was the coding language that the group had to choose since the algorithm provided to us by our mentor was written in Python. For context, the project that we are working on is the Cloud-based Optimization of Algorithmic Stock Market Trading Strategies.
The list of technologies chosen by the group include Python, AWS, Amazon Relational Database (Amazon RDS), Yahoo Finance, QuantConnect Lean, and Github. This is not a comprehensive list of the technologies, but the major ones that will be used in the making of our project. It is important to know the purpose of each technology, and how each of the technologies will fit into the greater scope of our project.
Here is a list of each technology, as well as their planned use in the project:
- Python: Used in making optimizations to the proprietary trading algorithm provided by our mentor/Levrum
- Amazon Relational Database (Amazon RDS): Data storage of results returned from algorithm/QuantConnect Lean, as well as intermediary data from Yahoo Finance
- Yahoo Finance: Data source with historical prices of stocks according to ticker symbols
- QuantConnect Lean: Open source program that will be used to verify accuracy of results produced by running the algorithm
- Github: Version Control System
