For this weeks reading we first read The Shape of Design, chapter 10. This chapter focused on the idea that everything in the world around us is designed. The chapter also told a story about how much of our environment has been designed by someone else. I then chose to read Open IDEO: Design thinking Challenge: Top Ideas. This design challenge was to come up with a solution to cut down on secondary fractures and keep older adults healthy. The ideas were all great examples of ideas that were focused on humans and driven by empathy. I Then chose to read Total Economic Impact of IBMs Design Thinking process. This was the results of IBM implementing design thinking strategies into their company. It was meant to combat challenges such as, slow frustrating projects, a ‘No’ culture that was killing creativity, and poor designs. The results showed that in the end, design thinking benefitted the company economically.
