As the true beginning of the term has come and gone, with all syllabus week assignments out of the way, it feels good to finally start my final term at OSU. The journey to get to this point has been a long one with several grueling weeks, however, I’m looking forward to experiencing a few more for the last time.

I am taking 3 electives alongside my capstone course and while I’m sure someone has had an even more rigorous courseload, for me it is my biggest challenge yet. While I did err on the side of caution by taking “easy” electives, they have proven to be anything but. As someone who tends to struggle with time management, I have had to make more of an effort to start assignments well in advance. I like to think of my ADHD as a superpower that affords me the luxury of being able to start and finish everything the day before it’s due, but I have more than myself to think about. My group members are counting on me to carry my own weight and that’s what I intend to do.
Throughout the majority of this program, I have gone at everything solo, except for the occasional group/partner work. Even the times when I had to work with others it was usually very asynchronous with very little interaction. This course, however, requires maximum effort from everyone involved to produce the desired results.
My group members and I have come together with the purpose of achieving our common goal. For the first time, I feel like a group project isn’t just a box that needs to be ticked off but is necessary to complete our evolution as computer science students. This final project will be seen as the culmination of all the hours we’ve put into this degree and so far it’s off to a great start. We have only just begun laying the groundwork for our project, but I can see how almost every course will be represented in the end product. This course seems to tie up everything we’ve learned thus far and allows us to see the fruits of our labor. I know that by the end of this term I will be more prepared than ever to face the challenges of my future career. However, there is still a long way to go, considering this term is only getting started.
