IPIP Results and Reactions

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the accuracy of this personality test. For most of the categories I scored average, which I believe is a good representation of my willingness to go with the flow. I pride myself on the way I’m able to be very malleable in many situations and do what it takes to get the job done. My scores are listed below:

Extraversion- Average

Agreeableness- Average

Conscientiousness- Average

Openness to Experience-Average

All of the above categories I scored average in, which indicates that I’m neither high or low on the scale, and can usually adapt to either side depending on the need.

Neuroticism- Low

This indicates my ability to remain calm in stressful situations and generally keep a good handle on my emotions.

When a potential employer is looking at these results, I would imaging being in the middle could be considered both a strength and a weakness. A strength because it doesn’t put me in just one box, it shows I have attributes of both of the extremes. On the contrary, it could also be viewed as a weakness because “average” employees aren’t typically sought after.

Extraversion- A strength of being in the middle of this category is it shows the employer that I am capable of working in a team and as an individual with the same success. A weakness of this average score could be perceived as not friendly or talkative enough for a certain position.

Agreeableness- A strength of this average score is that it indicates I’m still considerate and show concern for others needs, but I’m typically not willing to sacrifice myself for someone else. An employer could view this positively with the way it shows I’m able to keep a balance. A weakness of this would be concerning them that I may put myself ahead of others.

Conscientiousness- An employer could view my average score as a strength because it puts me right in the middle of being very conscientious and focused, but a little more lax in terms of being an perfectionist. A weakness of this score could be only being “reasonably reliable, organized, and self-controlled,”(2021 IPIP-NEO). As opposed to having a strong focus on those attributes as an employee.

Neuroticism- A low score in this category shows a strength of being able to remain calm and not jumping to conclusions due to intense emotions. Being level headed is very important in the business world. A weakness that could be taken from this score is not being emotionally invested in my job or the company.

Openness to Experience- A strength of an average score in this category is pretty self-explanatory. It shows my willingness to try new things but still be sufficiently satisfied with routine. A weakness would once again be being perceived as just average. It shows a thinking that isn’t consistent with an intellectual, but still well-educated.
