Reflection

As a growing leader, I want to be a manager who values the employee experience while maintaining organizational excellence. One of the most challenging aspects of a manager’s role is aligning people and performance. However, I believe that creating engaged and satisfied employees will ultimately lead to high performers who achieve their goals.

When I think about the kind of manager I want to be, I think of the type of managers I’ve looked up to the most. These managers are present, value diversity and differences in opinion, and encourage ideas and feedback. They follow structured training and development programs to help employees grow while coaching them to achieve both performance and personal/professional goals.

I believe that a great manager cultivates a sense of goal ownership, holds individuals accountable, and fosters inclusive and engaged teams through servant leadership. Becoming a successful manager comes with challenges, however HR will play a crucial supporting role. HR functions will assist by implementing handbook policies, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, facilitating training and development, and providing guidance on corrective actions when necessary.
