Zoology Department gets a new name

After 125 years, the Department of Zoology changed its name to the Department of Integrative Biology. With its new identity, the department combines the rich tradition of its distinguished history with a more contemporary name that better reflects the current scope and future vision of its scholarship, instruction and service.

The interdisciplinary biology curriculum is a collaborative program within the School of Life Sciences and the College of Agricultural Sciences. More than 1,200 undergraduate zoology and biology students benefit from dynamic and innovative lectures as well as cutting-edge lab, online and independent research experiences.

“With a keen focus on the intersections and integration of biological processes,” said Virginia Weis, Chair of the Department of Integrative Biology and Director of the School of Life Sciences, “the department views this vertical integration as central to its identity.”
