Writing Exercise #5

Some choices that I make that may have an impact on my microbial communities is opting for organic produce. A research article published to the journal Frontiers in microbiology titled “An Apple a Day: Which Bacteria Do We Eat With Organic and Conventional Apples?” found that the core taxa of organic apples was Lactobacillus which is frequently used in probiotics. Although I am not entirely sure whether or not other organic products also have the same impacts as organic apples, I would assume they have similar benefits as well.

A non intentional choice of mine is not an over consumption of red meats. Early on in the term we learned that red meats promote the growth of unwanted bacteria which play a key role in cancers. Avoiding these red meats almost acts as an inhibitor to unwanted bacteria since they would have a limited amount of nutrients to work with.
