The companies that I selected that are great places to work are Hilton, American Express and Cisco.
Hilton: Hilton is first on the list of fortune 500 best workplaces, and it’s employees report that they feel seen as a person rather than just a number by the company.
American Express: Employees really appreciate the work life balance that American Express has to offer, especially birthing parents due to the leave time that they get.
Cisco: Cisco employees enjoy the autonomy that they’re given regarding their job as well as their support system they can fall back on if they need assistance, as well as the diversity present in its leadership.
Looking at these companies it is clear that companies that respect their employees and care about them tend to produce happier employees that want to stay around for the long term. If companies take care of their people, then the people will reciprocate the same care in their work.
I would personally want to be the type of manager that anyone could go to if they need help with anything regarding their work, but also to do what needs to be done even if the task may be unpleasant. I wouldn’t want to necessarily be friends with people but I would try to be approachable and the person people would want to go to when there is an issue. I think the most difficult part of a managers job is telling people the things they don’t want to hear, for example if someone is performing poorly or firing someone seem like difficult conversations to have.
