At first, the job was just a way for me to make regular money while still going to school. While I did show up on time and finish the jobs I was given, I mostly just did what was asked of me and nothing more. But I changed a lot about how I behaved when my boss gave me opportunities to earn extra money by working extra hours and offering small rewards for good work.

When I learned that I could earn more each week by working extra hours and meeting certain performance standards, I became more motivated. I began volunteering for more shifts during busy weeks and putting more effort into my daily tasks. It felt worth the extra work to earn more money, especially as a college student paying for books, fees, and living expenses.

I think pay was a strong motivator because the benefits were directly linked to my actions and had an immediate impact on my finances. When I was a student, even small pay raises made a difference, so the reward felt personal and important. It also made me feel like I had more control over my money because I could see in my paycheck what would happen if I worked harder or more often.

This event taught me that the way employees are paid can have a big effect on how they act. Employees are more likely to work harder and be more engaged when pay is clearly linked to success or effort. I was willing to go above and beyond because I could make more money by working part-time while in college.

I worked part-time while I was in college to help pay for things.
