Week 1 Blog Assignment HR 453

In my research this week, I explored the HR practices of Hilton, The Cheesecake Factory, PCL Construction, and Hyatt Hotels Corporation to better understand how they approach HR Management to stand out as a company and how I might incorporate these insights to my own management approach.

At Hilton, HR focuses heavily on employee recognition, career development, and internal mobility. The company’s continuous focus on feedback loops and promoting from within demonstrates a commitment to both engagement and retention. Hilton’s #1 ranking on the Great Place to Work list is a direct reflection of how these practices foster a positive & motivated workplace.

The Cheesecake Factory emphasizes work-life balance & creating a supportive, empowering work environment. Their recognition programs & clear communication encourage employees to stay engaged and motivated. This supports values like job satisfaction and motivation, as employee are supported and appreciated.

PCL Construction takes a different approach by focusing on safety, leadership development, and continuous learning. In Construction, the most important thing HR can provide are high safety standards. PCL’s commitment to training & professional development helps reduce turnover risks to make them standout and have a solid record of successful projects.

Finally, Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s focus on flexibility & employee development mirrors what we have learned about reducing burnout and increasing self-motivation. Hyatt’s emphasis on work-life balance is a great example of how HR practices can help employee’s feel valued & autonomous.

As I reflect on the kind of manager I’d like to be, I hope to be a leader that encourages continuous learning, provide employees with opportunities to grow with their talents put to the best use, and foster a sense of belonging that is important in every industry. When I worked at my internship this Summer, I felt that I was set up for success with the tools provided, I understood where I could be of value and the steps to career development, and I felt like I belonged at the company. These are all qualities that are important to have as an employee, so I hope to provide these one day as a manager of my own.
