After taking the 3 surveys and quizzes I found out some positive attributes I could bring to the office without having a great amount of stress. In the Holmes- Rate Stress Survey I only received less than 150 points meaning I had a low amount of life changing occurrences, leading to less predictability of stress induced health breakdowns. I believe this is my case because I am so young. In the next 20 years this number will only increase and I will need to be able to handle the stress of my life while focusing on work. With the Type A personality survey I learned I only scored a 30 for irritability/ impatience. This is a relatively good score as this score can go all the way to 100. In the summary that was given to me it said I’m characterized with warmth and kindness most of the time; however, I may be tinged with impatience and hostility. It told me that when and if I become angry I’ll begin to lash out at people due to high levels of stress, even though this is very rare. When reading this I was thinking of ways I could avoid this from happening in a work space. Since I’m slightly prone to irritability I can work on breathing exercises and putting myself in other coworkers shoes. At my current line of work I was working as a hostess all day on a Saturday (our busiest day of the week) and felt like I was falling behind because there were so many customers to be seated. I felt like I wasn’t living up to the expectations of my mangers and it brought my mood down for the rest of the shift. After my shift was over and my manager told me ‘Liv, you really helped us out today, thanks for your hard work today.’ This made me feel at ease and that I was still a hard working employee in their eyes as they saw how I dealt with oncoming crowd of customers wanting to be seated. I believe the information from these surveys and the information I gained on how to combat stress will make me a better manager in the future.
