The companies that I selected were the companies that I deal with or have dealt with in the past. I chose Capital One, Car Max, and American Express as the companies that I would like to discuss. Every company is unique in its own way especially when you’re a successful fortune 500 organization. Capital One accomplishes this by letting its employees be individuals. Capital One allows its employees to be themselves and free to express themselves in that fashion. It allows the employees to break the rules of being a traditional employee and enables them to think outside the box. Car Max has a similar approach as Capital One. Car Max lets their employees adjust themselves to any marketing needs. This is very great because in their industry the customer’s needs are always changing making it very competitive. American Express takes pride in caring for its employees by creating a working system that involves a balance between work and family. American Express FMLA for new mothers could be up to 7 months and up to 5 months for nonnew mothers within the company. The companies have expressed the strategies that have made them who they are. If I was a manager I would want to be very flexible in the way I allow my employees to work. I would have relationships with them outside of work to get to know them better. The next objective would be to identify the strengths and weaknesses of my team. Constantly ask my team what tools they need to complete current objectives and how could we improve in the future. Also, I would create a period between quarters where I could sit down with each team member and ask them how would they want to run or handle tasks. That sounds like a piece of cake right, the challenge I think that managers have is autonomy. What I mean by this is that the managers don’t want to get in the way of their employee’s work. The manager would like the employees to make decisions on his behalf containing work and sometimes that’s not possible. The managers may have challenges with noticing hard workers in very large companies. Without acknowledgment of hard workers, could result in very low morale and production.
