THIS WEEK! <\/strong>Honors College Faculty Research Showcases<\/strong>
Mark your calendars for the Honors College Faculty Research Showcases this winter! The second showcase, featuring the College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and College of Forestry<\/strong>, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 4-5:30 p.m. PT in LInC 100 and over Zoom. <\/strong>Corvallis students are expected to attend in person.
HC Faculty Research Showcases are opportunities to learn more about research, scholarship and creative work at Oregon State. Students can connect with faculty members and discover ways to get involved in projects that may lead to an honors thesis. Showcases are open to all honors students, including those who aren\u2019t ready to begin a thesis. THIS WEEK! <\/strong>Dean & Friends conversation: Applying to and Succeeding in Medical School<\/strong>
All honors students are invited to a Dean and Friends Coffee conversation on Thursday, January 29 from 4-4:50 p.m. PT in LInC 343<\/strong>and over Zoom<\/strong> on “Applying to and Succeeding in Medical School,” with Dr. Robert Cloutier. Dean and Friends events are unique to the Honors College and are opportunities for current honors students to connect with alumni and other external supporters about different career paths and professional topics. At this Dean and Friends conversation, Robert will lead a discussion about medical school application processes and his career and answer questions. For those attending this event in person, coffee and snacks will be provided, and space is limited. Students must RSVP if interested<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THIS WEEK! <\/strong>Self-Care During Midterms<\/strong>
Midterms are here, and the Honors College wants students to feel prepared not just academically, but mentally too! Join the HC and CAPS on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. <\/strong>to hear about the importance of self-care during stressful times. Students will review a “Dam Good Growth Guide” and learn about ways they can care for their mental health this term and beyond. We will then have time to work on some fun activities to practice the skills in the Dam Good Growth Guide! Honors College students are invited to make a splash at the HC Dive-In Movie Night! Float, swim, or lounge poolside while enjoying a reel good movie on Sunday, February 1st from 5-8 p.m. <\/strong>Spots are limited to 50, so don\u2019t let your place float away! Curious about what Honors College students are researching? Join us for the Winter HC Undergraduate Research Showcases \u2014 dynamic online events where students present their thesis research in short, lightning-style talks. These showcases offer a glimpse into the wide range of topics our students explore and are a great way to get inspired, learn about research opportunities and connect with fellow students and faculty. After the presentations, stick around for breakout rooms with Q&A and conversation. All students, faculty, families and friends are welcome! Take an afternoon break and get creative with the Honors College! Join us on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the SLUG (LInC 340)<\/strong> for a cozy crafternoon where you can unwind, make something fun and connect with fellow HC students. NEW! <\/strong>Participants Needed for Honors Thesis Study<\/strong>
College-aged women at Oregon State University are invited to participate in a research study examining health literacy, breast cancer prevention, and self-efficacy. Participants may be invited to complete a one-on-one interview and will receive a $20 eGift card for their time. To determine eligibility, please complete a brief survey here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW! <\/strong>Participants Needed for Paid Research Study<\/strong>
OSU researchers are seeking participants for a study on automation in air traffic control. The study requires 3.5\u20135 hours across two days, and participants will be compensated $20\/hour. NEW! <\/strong>Submit Academic & Creative Works to UMN Honors Publication, Aisthesis by March 6, 2026<\/strong>
University of Minnesota Duluth’s Honors Program is currently seeking academic and creative submissions for the 2026 issue of Aisthesis, its undergraduate honors journal. As an interdisciplinary publication, Aisthesis welcomes academic work\u2014including honors capstone projects, literature reviews, and research articles\u2014from all fields. Creative submissions of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and visual art (including but not limited to painting, sculpture, short film, multimedia, and photography) are also encouraged. If you are hoping to build your resume, share your work, and publish as an undergraduate, this is a great opportunity to do so! Submit by March 6, 2026<\/strong>. Survey for Honors Thesis Seeking Participants<\/strong>
Megan is a senior in the Honors College looking for students to participate in the study for her thesis. We would like to hear your perspective in a 30-minute survey<\/a>. You will be asked questions about how well you feel you fit in at Oregon State. All of your answers will be kept confidential.
To be eligible to participate, you must: Be an OSU student; Be 18 years old or older; Communicate in English.

Join the Honors College Association (HCSA) for weekly club meetings! HCSA is a student-led club that plans activities for Honors College students. HCSA puts together social events, academic events, professional development events, and more. Join HCSA and help make great events happen! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5-6:00 p.m. in LInC 343<\/strong>. Attend Winter Honors College Community Coffee in the SLUG<\/strong>
All Honors College students, faculty and staff are invited to enjoy coffee, conversation and snacks at the winter term Honors College Community Coffee, on Wednesday, February 11 from 8:30 – 11 a.m. in the SLUG (LInC 340)<\/strong>. At this HC3, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to learn about National and Global Scholarships Advising, an OSU advising resource that supports undergraduate and graduate students and alumni who wish to explore nationally competitive scholarships. You\u2019ll also have the opportunity to learn about Design for Social Impact, a multidisciplinary, project-driven initiative that connects students, faculty and community partners to tackle real-world challenges through design-thinking and hands-on solutions.
