THIS WEEK! <\/strong>Honors College Winter Wellness Series <\/strong>
Winter in Oregon can be tough, with the colder, darker, and rainier days making it harder to feel good. The Honors College wants to support you not just in your academic success, but in your wellness, too. This term, the HC will be hosting a variety of events that encourage students to encourage students to seek out many opportunities to care for themselves. The first event in this series will be in week 2! 
Week 2 event: Planting Connections<\/em><\/strong>
To kick off the term, Honors College students are invited to come grab a succulent, paint their own plant pot, and meet new HC students! All supplies, as well as light snacks and drinks, will be provided for students. Questions about this program and accommodation requests can be directed to Taylor Maki (makit@oregonstate.edu). We look forward to connecting with you and bringing a little sunshine to the winter term! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

THIS WEEK! <\/strong>Honors College Faculty Research Showcases<\/strong>
Mark your calendars for the Honors College Faculty Research Showcases this winter!<\/strong>
The first showcase, featuring the College of Health, College of Pharmacy, College of Science and College of Veterinary Sciences<\/strong>, will take place on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 4-5:30 p.m. PT in LInC 100 and over. <\/strong>Corvallis students are expected to attend in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second showcase, featuring the College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and College of Forestry<\/strong>, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 4-5:30 p.m. PT in LInC 100 and over Zoom. <\/strong>Corvallis students are expected to attend in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HC Faculty Research Showcases are opportunities to learn more about research, scholarship and creative work at Oregon State. Students can connect with faculty members and discover ways to get involved in projects that may lead to an honors thesis. Showcases are open to all honors students, including those who aren\u2019t ready to begin a thesis. NEW!<\/strong> HC Juniors and Seniors: Participate in Online vs. In-Person Lab Study<\/strong>
Researchers in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering and the School of Psychological Science at OSU are conducting a study investigating the effectiveness of online and in-person lab environments <\/strong>for engineering education. In this study you will be asked to learn about programmable logic control (PLC) and complete an associated lab exercise. Participation includes a time commitment of 6-10 hours<\/strong> spread over a 2-week period during the first three weeks of Winter term, and a compensation of $20 per hour<\/strong> of participation (up to $200 total). To be eligible, you must be 18 years or older, fluent in English, and a junior- or senior-level undergraduate engineering student. To enroll in this study or if you have any questions about participating, please fill out this form<\/a> or contact Gabrielle Paul (paulga@oregonstate.edu).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dean and Friends events are unique to the Honors College and are opportunities for current honors students to connect with alumni and other external supporters about different career paths and professional topics. For this Dean and Friends event, Paris will lead a discussion on the theme, \u201cCareers in Manufacturing and Working Internationally.\u201d For those attending this event in person, lunch will be provided, and space is limited. NEW! <\/strong>Volunteer for OSU\u2019s largest and longest-running day of service, honoring Dr. King’s legacy by fostering peace and community through service<\/strong>
Come together to serve lunch for the MLK Day of Service participants! Following many cultural traditions, service through food is a time-honored tradition that brings communities together. This project will have folks serve lunch to the participants of other service projects and help clean up the kitchen after service!
If Honors College students are interested in volunteering for this project, they can register at beav.es\/hcserve<\/a>. Spots are limited! Register today and no later than Jan. 23. <\/strong>
Please note: This registration link is only for the HC\u2011reserved volunteer group. Students are also welcome to explore and register for any of the other MLK Day of Service projects listed on the CEL posters and website \u2014 those opportunities are open to everyone but do not have HC\u2011held spots.

Students can now apply for the 2026 OSU Alternative Spring Break trips<\/a> happening this March. Alt. Break is open to ALL OSU students: undergrad & grad students in Corvallis, Ecampus, and Cascades. Application & details are on the Alt. Break webpage<\/a>. Priority application deadline: Friday, January 23rd<\/sup> (applications accepted on a rolling basis after until March 6th).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends conversation with William Rowden, \u201994, on Friday, February 6 from 3-3:50 p.m. PT in LInC 345 and over Zoom<\/strong>. Dean and Friends events are unique to the Honors College and are opportunities for current honors students to connect with alumni and other external supporters about different career paths and professional topics. For this Dean and Friends event, William will lead a discussion on the theme, \u201cBalancing Values and Career Goals.\u201d For those attending this event in person, coffee and snacks will be provided, and space is limited.
