NOTICE: Sackett Place closure for steam line repair
Effective Date(s): Thursday, November 13, 2025<\/u>
<\/strong>As part of the construction work to replace a steam line between Austin Hall and Sackett Hall, a crane will be set up at Sackett Place on Thursday, November 13<\/strong>. There will no access for parking or deliveries. Deliveries to LInC will be rerouted to the EH&S Annex for the day. \u00a0Alternate pedestrian routes will be noted with signs. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TODAY!\u00a0Honors College Alumni Pathways Conversation \u2013 Research pathways in biomedicine with Chelsea Parker Harp, \u201912<\/u><\/strong>
All honors students are invited to meet over Zoom with HC alum Chelsea Parker Harp, \u201912, on\u00a0Mon, Nov 10\u00a0from 4-4:50 p.m. Pacific Time over Zoom\u00a0<\/strong>to learn more about her pathway into biomedical research. Chelsea received her H.B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics, with minors in chemistry and philosophy. She then earned a Ph.D. in 2018, studying a model of Multiple Sclerosis to study how different immune cells coordinate and perpetuate autoimmunity in the central nervous system. Chelsea is now a senior scientist at Seismic Tx, working to bring novel biologic therapies to the clinic for autoimmunity indications. Before this, she was a biology project representative for one of two lead assets targeting inflammatory pathways at Montai Health, a Flagship Pioneering Company in Cambridge, MA. She has also worked in the multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation research unity at Biogen, where she led a partnered program for PROTAC therapy targeting CNS resident inflammation.\u00a0Get the Zoom link by RSVPing here!<\/a>

THIS WEEK!\u00a0Honors College Dean and Friends Coffee Conversation \u2013 Leadership and Communication, with Tom Harvey<\/strong>
All honors students are invited to a Dean and Friends Conversation on\u00a0Friday, November 14th from 3-3:50 p.m. in LInC 343 (or over Zoom)<\/strong>\u00a0on “Cross-Functional Team Leadership and Communication,” with\u00a0Tom Harvey<\/a>. Tom is the parent of a current Honors College student and is a Boeing Designated Expert in high-pressure systems integration in the Boeing Environmental Control System Design Center, where he leads and builds cross-functional teams to resolve high-priority technical issues and initiatives. He has his B.S. in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington, focusing on management of technology programs. Tom has been with the Boeing Company since 1997 in a variety of roles and is a certified Project Management Professional and Boeing Lean Leader for Value Stream Mapping. For those attending this Dean and Friends event in person, coffee and snacks will be provided, and space is limited.\u00a0RSVP for the event here<\/a>.

NEW THIS WEEK!\u00a0Free Film Friday: The People vs. Agent Orange<\/strong>
Free Film Friday is a series of free films presented by The Honors College, College of Liberal Arts and School of History, Philosophy and Religion on conflict and warfare ecology. This week\u2019s screening is on\u00a0Friday, Nov. 14 at<\/strong>\u00a04\u00a0p.m. in Milam Auditorium (Milam 026)\u00a0<\/strong>featuring\u00a0The People vs. Agent Orange<\/em>, an award-winning documentary that explores the environmental and human impact of Agent Orange, connecting stories from Vietnam to Oregon. Following the 90-minute film, Dr. Jacob Darwin Hamblin will introduce reflections from Honors College students, with a Q&A to follow. Free and open to all students!

NEW!\u00a0HC Juniors and Seniors: Participate in Online vs. In-Person Lab Study<\/strong>
Researchers in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering and the School of Psychological Science at OSU are conducting a study investigating the\u00a0effectiveness of online and in-person lab environments\u00a0<\/strong>for engineering education. In this study you will be asked to learn a relevant engineering topic and complete\u00a0an\u00a0associated\u00a0lab exercise. Participation includes a time commitment of\u00a06-10 hours<\/strong>\u00a0spread over a 2-week period during Fall term, and a compensation of\u00a0$20 per hour<\/strong>\u00a0of participation (up to $200 total). To be eligible, you must be 18 years or older, fluent in English, and a junior- or senior-level undergraduate engineering student. To enroll in this study or if you have any questions about participating,\u00a0please fill out\u00a0<\/a>this form<\/a>\u00a0or contact Gabrielle Paul (paulga@oregonstate.edu).

HC Freshmen: Help Participate in Research on Imposter Syndrome<\/strong>
Olivia Bell, a honors psychology major at Harding University, is conducting an IRB-approved research study examining the experiences of freshmen honors students. This study explores the relationship between impostor phenomenon and academic motivation among honors freshmen. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous.\u00a0The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete<\/a>.
The insights from this study may help honors programs better understand how to support students as they transition into college. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Olivia at obell@harding.edu.

Fall Undergraduate Research Showcases<\/strong>
Curious about what Honors College students are researching? Join us for the HC Undergraduate Research Showcases \u2014 dynamic online events where students present their thesis research in short, lightning-style talks. These showcases offer a glimpse into the wide range of topics our students explore and are a great way to get inspired, learn about research opportunities and connect with fellow students and faculty. After the presentations, stick around for breakout rooms with Q&A and conversation. All students, faculty, families and friends are welcome! WEEKLY! HCSA Meeting<\/strong>
Join the Honors College Association (HCSA) for weekly club meetings! HCSA is a student-led club that plans activities for Honors College students. HCSA puts together social events, academic events, professional development events, and more. Join HCSA and help make great events happen! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5-6:00 p.m. in LInC 268<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resources for Food & Housing Support<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Supporting OSU Community SNAP Recipients During the Federal Shutdown<\/strong>
Oregon State University cares for OSU community members facing food insecurity and financial stress. The Basic Needs Center (BNC) and university partners are preparing for potential impacts of the federal government shutdown on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The resources offered below may be of help to our community navigating this challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support of Basic Needs at OSU-Cascades:<\/strong> The Associated Students of Cascades Campus (ASCC) and the Student Care Case Manager (contact charlotte.scott@osucascades.edu<\/strong>)  are great starting points for information about accessing basic needs support at OSU-Cascades and in Central Oregon.  ASCC has several Student Support Programs<\/a>, including a food pantry, basic needs products, and emergency housing and childcare subsidies.

Peer Navigator Services:<\/strong>
Peer Navigators can help students access resources like food programs, cost-effective meal strategies, and employment opportunities.

Food Pantry on the Corvallis Campus: Most Wednesdays, Basic Needs Center from 8am\u20132pm (check @bncatosu on Instagram or call 541-737-9127 for updates)<\/strong>. This program also supports staff who meet income qualifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food Pantry on the OSU-Cascades Campus: Visit the pantry at the Student Government office on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm; Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm; and Wednesdays from 4pm to 10pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cForgot Your Lunch?\u201d Station in the SLUG<\/strong>
The Honors College offers a \u201cForgot Your Lunch?\u201d station in the SLUG kitchen area for HC students who need a light meal. Whether you forgot your lunch or are running low on funds, you\u2019re welcome to use this free, self-serve resource anytime the SLUG is open. Food is available in the kitchen cabinets and freezer. Please take only what you need so there\u2019s enough for everyone.
