He turned his youthful fascination with biology and science, which he developed growing up on the south shore of Long Island, fishing and exploring coastal marshes and woodlots, into a career researching the ecology and management of insect pests of agricultural crops, insect-plant interactions, and the epidemiology and management of insect-vectored plant viruses. We look forward to striking up great conversations with you!<br><br><strong>NEW!&nbsp;HC Freshmen: Help Participate in Research on Imposter Syndrome<\/strong><br>Olivia Bell, a honors psychology major at Harding University, is conducting an IRB-approved research study examining the experiences of freshmen honors students. This study explores the relationship between impostor phenomenon and academic motivation among honors freshmen. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous. <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/hQWEJiCZhKtaRgjZ7&nbsp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete<\/a>.<br>The insights from this study may help honors programs better understand how to support students as they transition into college. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Olivia at obell@harding.edu.<br><br><strong><u>Honors College Alumni Pathways Conversation \u2013 Research pathways in biomedicine with Chelsea Parker Harp, \u201912<\/u><\/strong><br>All honors students are invited to meet over Zoom with HC alum Chelsea Parker Harp, \u201912, on <strong>Mon, Nov 11 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. Pacific Time over Zoom&nbsp;<\/strong>to learn more about her pathway into biomedical research. Chelsea received her H.B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics, with minors in chemistry and philosophy. She then earned a Ph.D. in 2018, studying a model of Multiple Sclerosis to study how different immune cells coordinate and perpetuate autoimmunity in the central nervous system. Chelsea is now a senior scientist at Seismic Tx, working to bring novel biologic therapies to the clinic for autoimmunity indications. Before this, she was a biology project representative for one of two lead assets targeting inflammatory pathways at Montai Health, a Flagship Pioneering Company in Cambridge, MA. Tom is the parent of a current Honors College student and is a Boeing Designated Expert in high-pressure systems integration in the Boeing Environmental Control System Design Center, where he leads and builds cross-functional teams to resolve high-priority technical issues and initiatives. He has his B.S. in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington, focusing on management of technology programs. Tom has been with the Boeing Company since 1997 in a variety of roles and is a certified Project Management Professional and Boeing Lean Leader for Value Stream Mapping. The Basic Needs Center (BNC) and university partners are preparing for potential impacts of the federal government shutdown on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).
