THIS WEEK! Dean and Friends Lunch on Multidisciplinary Collaboration in Artistic Projects and Installations with award-winning public artist Larry Kirkland<\/strong>
All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends lunch on multidisciplinary collaboration in artistic projects and installations with Larry Kirkland, \u201972, on Tues, Apr. 29<\/strong> from noon-12:50 p.m. PDT in LinC 345 and over Zoom<\/strong>. Larry is one of the leading public artists in the world today. He has collaborated with design professionals and community leaders to create art works to honor individuals, places, communities and events at locations across the world. His most recent work was a waterfront park on the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington, completed in 2018, and he is currently creating a Peace Corps Commemorative Park adjacent to the U.S. Capitol. He has extensive work on public art selection and review panels, as well, and has written several art master plans. For his work, he\u2019s received a fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts and alumni recognition from Oregon State University. Larry graduated from the Oregon State University honors program that preceded the current Honors College with a degree in art. For this special Dean and Friends lunch conversation, Larry will discuss the collaborations between engineers, construction managers, artisans, researchers, writers, landscape architects, architects, lighting designers, and more that have been behind his projects, focusing on selected examples. THIS WEEK! Faculty Research Showcases<\/strong>
The Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don\u2019t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events helps you to explore opportunities and make connections. Corvallis students are expected to join in person. Get ready, Beavs! Dam Proud Day, OSU’s annual day of giving, is approaching on Wednesday, April 30<\/strong>. Your support means everything to us as we strive to unlock over $60,000 in challenge donations by reaching our goal of 120 individual gifts. <\/strong>Every gift made to the Honors College this Dam Proud Day supports HC student scholarships that provide honors undergraduates with access to research, curricular and experiential opportunities. WEEKLY! <\/u><\/strong>Wag and Walk Wednesdays with Cedar!<\/strong>
Join Cedar, the campus wellness dog, for a weekly Wag and Walk with the Honors College! Take some time out of your Wednesday to take a break, get outside, and connect with others (and pet Cedar, of course)! Walks will not be challenging, and we will go on whatever route Cedar’s nose and curiosity leads us. Come for the hour or come for part of it- we can even walk you to your next class! Wag and Walk with Cedar will start at 1 p.m., meeting on the west side of the LINC<\/strong> (by the LINC doors facing Sackett Hall!), and will last until roughly 2 or 2:15. Honors College x ALI Ropes Course \u2013 Sign Up Now!<\/strong>
Join the Honors College and the Adventure Leadership Institute for a morning on the low ropes course! Challenge yourself, build connections, and have fun with fellow HC students. This free event takes place Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/strong> Students can meet at the ropes course or walk over together from outside the LINC at 9:30 a.m.<\/strong> Space is limited to 25 participants\u2014sign up here<\/a>. 2025 Honors College Spring Gala<\/strong>
The Annual Honors College Spring Gala is happening Fri, May 9 <\/strong>this year and will be held in the CH2M HILL Alumni Center<\/strong>. The theme this year is western chic with a special appearance from the OSU Western Line Dance Club! So put on your cowboy boots and come celebrate the end of another amazing year with the Honors College! The event starts at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and dancing will be start at 7 p.m. There will be a musical guest and awards given out! HC Thesis Resource Navigators will be hosting drop-in hours in the SLUG and on Zoom for any questions you might have regarding your thesis. Stage 4 Thesis Drop-In Workshop Hours<\/strong>
The HC is excited to offer drop-in thesis hours for students who are in stage 4 of their thesis! These will be happening in LInC 450 and on Zoom<\/a><\/strong>, where they\u2019ll run Monday through Friday from 4-5 p.m.<\/strong> Whether you\u2019re grappling with formatting challenges for your pre-text pages, have questions about the external communication requirement, or encounter any other thesis-related issues, this is your opportunity to seek assistance! Participants wanted for survey on food insecurity<\/strong>
Honors student researcher Roman Quick is seeking students to participate as volunteers in his thesis research on food insecurity. “This is an Honors Thesis student’s survey researching the food programs and strategies utilized by the OSU student population. It includes general questions as well as questions about your familiarity with food programs and strategies. Your participation, regardless of your experience with food programs or strategies, is useful to understanding the OSU student population.” Find the consent statement and survey here<\/a>.

Honors student researcher Niki Raj is seeking students to participate as volunteers in her thesis research on “Vaping Perceptions among College Students.” From Raj, “this is a 15\u201320-minute survey that allows us to observe trends among different demographics regarding topics such as quitting, exposure to vaping products, emotions\/feelings vaping, etc.” Participants’ names will be kept confidential and completion will receive a $5 cold stone or amazon gift card<\/strong>. Submit Creative Works to the NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creativity Activity<\/strong>
UReCA: The NCHC Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creativity Activity welcomes your research and creative submissions before June 1<\/strong>. UReCA is sponsored by the National Collegiate Honors Council, and is currently managed, edited and produced by a team of twenty-nine undergraduate students from each of the NCHC regions and a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Volunteer with Global Medical Brigades in Guatemala in December<\/strong>
Global Medical Brigades at Oregon State University is a student organization that works in partnership with Global Brigades, a nonprofit health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of university students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members, improving the quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local cultures. Inspiring, mobilizing, and collaborating with communities to achieve their own health and economic goals, Global Brigades hosts medical clinics and economic development programs in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, Guatemala, Greece, and Belize. Our Oregon State chapter will be working in Guatemala during Winter Break, December 14-20, 2025<\/strong>. Join our brigade and help deliver a healthier future to underserved communities in the region. We meet Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in STAG 111<\/strong>. THIS WEEK! Fulbright Information Session<\/strong>
National and Global Scholarships Advising will be hosting a Fulbright Information Session on Wednesday, Apr. 30, 4-5 p.m in LINC 345<\/strong>. In partnership with 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers opportunities in all academic disciplines to graduating college seniors, graduate students, alumni, and early career professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad. During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others\u2019 viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Come meet the staff from National and Global Scholarships Advising and hear about how we support OSU Fulbright applicants. We’ll guide you from the beginning all the way through your application and beyond. NEW! <\/strong>Goldwater Scholarship Panel Discussion<\/strong>
Are you a budding STEM researcher? The Goldwater Scholarship may be right for you! Join OSU Goldwater nominees and scholars will host a panel discussion on Fri. May 9, 11 am-12 pm, STAG 112 & Online <\/a><\/strong>to talk about this national scholarship opportunity that supports the work of students who wish to become career researchers. We’ll be talking about how Goldwater supports students in all STEM disciplines and what this scholarship can do for you. Our panelists will discuss how they got involved in research here at OSU, their tips and strategies for finding their passion and where they plan to go in the future. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship provides scholarships of $7,500 per year for up to two years for sophomores and juniors enrolled full-time in an undergraduate STEM degree. This session will be facilitated by National and Global Scholarships Advising. The National and Global Scholarships Advising Office supports all applicants for this scholarship and encourages budding researchers to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honors College Emergency Grant<\/strong>
The Honors College Emergency Grant<\/a> supports students facing unexpected expenses, including housing, meals, course materials, healthcare, vehicle repairs, and travel for family emergencies. Grants are up to $500 per term, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Honors College differential tuition is not covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HC Experiential Learning Scholarship<\/u><\/strong>
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here<\/a> for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) is looking for new members for the 2025-2026 school year!  SHAB is a team of undergraduate and graduate students of any major who regularly meet once a week for a one-year term. We work with Student Health Services (SHS) to advocate for the student body and ensure health services meet students\u2019 needs. Whether it’s your first interview or you’re just looking to improve your skills, this workshop will help you to feel more ready and confident. This workshop will be led by Dr. Michelle Strowbridge, the assistant director of career services at OSU! This event will have free pizza from Woodstock and refreshments available to those who attend.
